About Us

Winston launched its first fund of hedge funds in 1995, with the objective of identifying and investing with the most talented fundamental, research-driven long/short equity managers. The firm manages a U.S.-focused and a global strategy, both of which seek to achieve outstanding long-term returns with significantly lower volatility than the broad market, and to reduce the loss of capital during challenging equity market environments.

  • Winston’s first fund, launched in January 1995, is focused on the broad U.S. equity market. The firm created a separate fund in October 1999 to accommodate tax-exempt and non-U.S. investors. Due to their identical objectives and approach and the high degree of similarity between their two portfolios, the firm combined the two funds into a master-feeder structure in January 2011.
  • The firm established a global fund in January 2002 to provide diversified exposure to U.S. and international equity markets. The geographic allocation of this fund is broadly comparable to the composition of global equity indices: the U.S. portion of the fund will typically represent 50% to 70% of the portfolio.
  • In addition to managing its two proprietary commingled funds, Winston manages two sub-advisory/separate-account relationships with similar mandates to the commingled products.
As of January 1, 2012, Winston manages approximately $1.4 billion in assets for a broad variety of clients such as foundations & endowments, hospitals, pension funds, banks, insurance companies, high net worth individuals and family offices. The firm seeks to provide outstanding risk-adjusted performance and the highest level of service to its investors.

Philanthropy

Winston is committed to serving our community along with serving our investors.  Beyond our “day job” of asset management, we are involved in a variety of volunteer and charitable giving activities with organizations such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – National Capital Area Chapter.  We are very fortunate to be involved in a business that we love, and we seek to devote the same energy and enthusiasm that we offer our clients to serving our community as well.
