Marvin P. Bush, Co-Founder and Managing Partner
Mr. Bush is the Managing Partner of Winston Partners. Prior to co-founding
Winston in December 1993, Mr. Bush spent twelve years in the investment business
with Moseley, Hallgarten, Estabrook and Weeden, Inc., Shearson Lehman Brothers
Inc., and John Stewart Darrell & Company. He serves on the Board of Directors
of Kerrco, Inc. and sits on the NCAA Leadership Advisory Board of Directors and
is a member of the Advisory Board of the George Bush Presidential Library. He
is a member of the Advisory Board of Calder Capital Partners and the Board of
the College Foundation of the University of Virginia. He was previously on the
Board of Managers at the University of Virginia. Mr. Bush earned his B.A. from
the University of Virginia.
Jonathan D. Scanlon, CFA, Managing Partner
Mr. Scanlon is co-portfolio manager and oversees the research process and
fund operations of Winston Partners. Prior to joining the firm in April 2002,
Mr. Scanlon worked for Duke Management Company, where he led the team managing
all of Duke University’s investments in hedge funds and traditional public
equity strategies. Previously, he was with Merck & Co., Inc. for several
years, including two years in Merck’s Pension Investments Group. He began
his career at Mellon Bank. Mr. Scanlon received an M.B.A. from the Fuqua School
of Business at Duke University, where he currently serves on the Alumni Council,
and a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated magna
cum laude.
Jayson S. Ward, CFA, Partner
Mr. Ward focuses on research for Winston’s hedge fund vehicles. Prior
to joining the firm in January 2001, Mr. Ward worked for a start-up securitized
lending firm for several years, prior to which he was a Trader on the International
Fixed Income desk at Lehman Brothers. He has also worked for a start-up
software company as a sales manager and as a multinational underwriter
for CIGNA Worldwide, Inc. Mr. Ward received a B.A. from the University of Richmond
and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
J. Bryan Watts, CFA, Partner
Mr. Watts focuses on research for Winston’s hedge fund vehicles. Prior
to joining the firm in July 2003, Mr. Watts worked at Cambridge Associates
for five years, including three years in Cambridge’s hedge fund research
group, where he was most recently a Research Consultant. He also worked for
Horizon Bank of Virginia as a Credit Analyst. Mr. Watts received an M.B.A.
with High Distinction from the University of Michigan and a B.S. degree in
Business from Virginia Tech.
Elizabeth Oldach Anderson, CFA, Senior Analyst
Ms. Anderson focuses on research for Winston’s hedge fund vehicles. Prior
to joining the firm in October 2005, Ms. Anderson was an Investment Analyst
at Georgetown University’s Investment Office, where she focused on hedge
funds, private equity and real assets. Previously, Ms. Anderson was an
Investment Analyst at Duke Management Company (Duke University) focused primarily
on hedge fund and long-only equity investments. Ms. Anderson received
a B.S. with Distinction from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School
of Commerce.
K. Quinn Amesbury, Analyst
Ms. Amesbury focuses on research for Winston’s hedge fund vehicles.
Prior to joining the firm in October 2005, Ms. Amesbury was a Senior
Research Associate at Cambridge Associates focused exclusively on hedge funds. She
is a Level III candidate in the CFA Program. Ms. Amesbury received a
B.S. in Economics with a concentration in Finance from the University of Virginia.
Charles G. Hardwick III, Principal
Mr. Hardwick focuses on marketing and client service for Winston’s hedge
fund products. Prior to joining the firm in May 2006, Mr. Hardwick worked
in a similar capacity in San Francisco as a Senior Vice President at Maymont
Partners. From 1998 to 2002, he was with the investment banking division of
Lehman Brothers in New York, most recently as a Vice President. Mr. Hardwick
received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of
Pennsylvania and a B.S. from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School
of Commerce.
St. Julian O. Pollard, Principal
Mr. Pollard focuses on client service and marketing for Winston’s hedge
fund products. Prior to joining the firm in March 2006, Mr. Pollard worked
in a similar capacity as a Vice President at Silvercrest Asset Management.
From 1996 to 2003, he was with the asset management divisions of Donaldson,
Lufkin & Jenrette and its successor, Credit Suisse, where he held various
client service and marketing roles, most recently as Vice President. Mr. Pollard
received a B.A. from the University of Virginia.
Leslie K. Atanasova, Marketing Assistant
Ms. Atanasova focuses on client service and marketing for Winston’s hedge fund products. Prior to joining the firm in May 2008, Ms. Atanasova was a member of the revenue management team at Host Hotels & Resorts Inc. in Bethesda, MD. From 2000 to 2005, she was an Equity Research Assistant at UBS Warburg and Banc of America Securities in New York, covering specialty retail companies. Ms. Atanasova received a B.A. from the University of Mississippi.
Ann S. Williams, Director of Operations and
Chief
Compliance Officer
Ms. Williams focuses on Winston’s fund operations, including administration,
compliance, and research. Prior to joining the firm in July 2002, Ms. Williams
worked for Thayer Capital Partners, as well as Carlyle International. Ms.
Williams has over 20 years of administrative experience and in-depth financial
and private equity experience.
Deborah MacDougall Conway, Operations Assistant
Ms. Conway works directly with the Director of Operations and provides
administrative support to the hedge fund team. Prior to joining the firm in
July 2005, Ms. Conway worked extensively as a litigation assistant and
has over 20 years of administrative experience as well as in-depth trial record
management experience.
Christine A. Norton, Executive Assistant
Ms. Norton provides administrative assistance to Marvin Bush and the hedge
fund team. Prior to joining Winston in March 2005, Ms. Norton worked for Number
Six Software in Arlington, Virginia. Ms. Norton has over 15 years of administrative
experience as well as extensive human resources and office management experience.
Ms. Norton received a B.A. in English from the University of Maryland and,
while serving in the Navy, a diploma in Chinese Mandarin from the Defense Language
Institute in Monterey, California.
Patricia A. Garubba, Office Manager
Ms. Garubba reports to the Director of Operations as Office Manager for the firm and in addition provides administrative support to the hedge fund team. Prior to joining Winston in August 2006, Ms. Garubba held the position of Assistant to the President/Director of Employee Programs for Resource Consultants, Inc., a 4,500 employee, Federal technical services firm. Ms. Garubba has more than 27 years of administrative and program management experience.
Jennifer R. Commander, CPA, Partner and
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Commander joined Winston in June 2003 and oversees the financial, accounting
and operational aspects of the firm. She was previously the Controller, responsible
for all accounting and reporting functions, for Global Environment Fund (GEF),
a series of private equity funds with approximately $350 million of assets.
Prior to GEF, she worked for Arthur Andersen, LLP as an Audit Manager in the
Commercial and Finance Division. Ms. Commander received a B.B.A. degree in
Accounting, summa cum laude, from The College of William and Mary.
Ms. Commander is a member of the AICPA and the Virginia Society of CPAs.
Kristina S. Inglis, Controller
Ms. Inglis is responsible for managing the accounting, financial reporting and tax compliance for Winston and its funds. Prior to joining the firm in October 2007, she was Assistant Controller at Ridgefield Capital, a commodities hedge fund. She also worked for Zeus Capital, a hedge fund, as the Assistant Controller. From 2000 through 2004, Ms. Inglis was an Associate Director at UBS Investment Bank responsible for Operational Risk Analysis and, most recently, for managing the OTC Equity and Interest Rate Derivatives Operations team. She received an M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a B.S. degree in Finance with a minor in Accounting from Siena College.
Linda M. Hang, CPA, Senior Accountant
Ms. Hang is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting for Winston’s funds. Prior to joining the firm in September 2006, she worked for Reznick Group PC as a senior audit associate and PricewaterhouseCoopers as an audit associate. Ms. Hang received a double B.S. in Accounting and Finance from the University of Maryland at College Park. Ms. Hang holds her CPA license in Maryland.
